When you are craving an amazing steak, it’s time to visit Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Fashion Island. The Newport Beach location was the first Fleming’s opened by Paul Fleming and Bill Allen in 1998 and more than a decade later has remained a mainstay on the restaurant circuit – not only for the cuisine but for the dynamic atmosphere as well.
Chances are whether you stop in on a Tuesday or a Saturday, the restaurant will be bustling – the bar is always lively especially during the swanky happy hour which offers 5 cocktails, 5 wines and 5 small plates at $6 each from 5-7 p.m. It is the perfect way to enjoy a taste of Fleming’s and the energy in the lounge is palatable. However if you prefer to sit and savor your meal, the dining room is the place to be and it’s best to make a reservation.
As a starter the Lobster Tempura is a must-try – savory lobster tail is enrobed by a light and crisp fried batter for an amazing flavor combination, particularly in-between bites of the colorful arugula salad with which it is paired. The Seared Ahi Tuna is another perfect start with fresh and flavorful ahi perfectly seared and served with a spicy mustard sauce that has a decent kick. From the salads, the wedge is a perfect rendition of this traditional steakhouse starter, while the fresh mozzarella and sweet tomato salad is a blend of textures with creamy cheese, tart tomatoes and fragrant basil.
When it comes time to order steak – traditionalists will want to try the Ribeye, the prime flavorful cut is mouthwatering good and when paired with gourmet sides like creamy mac ‘n cheese, silky mashed potatoes, flavorful sautéed mushrooms or crispy green beans you will think you’ve died and gone to heaven. If you prefer a more petite cut of meat the Filet Mignon is your best bet or for some spice, try the Peppercorn New York Strip steak – this one has a bite!
Fleming’s is known not only for their superior steaks but also their amazing wine collection that offers the perfect pairing for any selection from their robust but focused menu. They have 100 wines by the glass, a unique Wine Flight tasting program and a list of world-class wines to complement your meal. If you aren’t well-versed in wine, don’t be scared – they have professionals on hand that will make recommendations and guide you along the way.
